It was written in 1998, intended for the tribute that a group of Spanish authors and performers dedicated that same year to Félix Hazen in commemoration of his 50 years of professional life. It was premiered by the Mompou Trio and later published in the Tribute Book of that event.
Félix Hazen (1928-2008)
Written for a classical trio with piano, this Compound movement is part of a fairly extensive section of my catalog dedicated to music created for educational purposes. This includes various technical and musical challenges, with the main aim being to enrich the contemporary chamber music repertoire for intermediate level music education.
With a lighthearted and scherzando character, momentarily interrupted by some dramatic passages, the piece borrows its title from the physical term used to describe the movement resulting from different forces acting in different directions. This concept is also applicable to any chamber composition, where the final result depends on the varying degrees of convergence toward a common goal by each performer. Compound movement was premiered by the Mompou Trio on December 20, 1998, in the Parallel Activities Hall of the Teatro Real in Madrid.
