This collection of
Five pieces is part of an already substantial portion of my catalog, primarily dedicated to the composition of pedagogical music, with its practical and immediate use in Chamber music classes as the main objective, although they can also be performed in a conventional concert. It involves "tailor-made" adaptations for the very diverse instrumental ensembles that usually arise in conservatories for such teaching purposes, from a set of pieces from different works, always with a didactic orientation as the starting point. Three of them (the
Two-voice Glosa on a cantus firmus, the
Lullaby, and
The Lost Steps -Habanera for Alejo Carpentier) come from my
Seven pieces for Piano, from 1987, while the remaining two (
Tango and
Ragtime) are part of the work
Three Dances, for two violins and cello, from 1997.
The original collections are dedicated to my children, while the
Five Pieces are dedicated to Alicia Núñez, a professor at the Conservatory of La Coruña, where they were premiered at the final concert of her Chamber music students, in May 2003, in an adaptation for oboe, clarinet, and piano.
In addition to this version, the pieces were later arranged for quintet with piano; oboe, violin, and piano; two violins and piano; and violin, viola, and piano, being open to other instrumental combinations.
