In 2011 the percussionist of the Córdoba Orchestra, Carolina Alcaraz, who had recently performed my Saeta for marimba in several concerts, asked me to compose a piece for solo marimba and strings. At that time, pending work prevented me from meeting her request with a new work, so I did not hesitate to transcribe for that template my Concerto da chiesa, from 1997, for cello and strings, to whose page I refer for more information.

In this way, the work focused exclusively on adapting the solo cello part to the marimba, respecting the content as far as possible and logically varying the performance according to the technical and expressive demands of the new instrument.
The score of the Concerto for Marimba and Strings was made between the months of April and May 2012. Dedicated to Carolina Acaraz, it has not yet had a opportunity to be premiered.
